The American Medical Association (AMA)’s Physician’s Guide

The Physician’s Guide to Assessing and Counseling Older Drivers was developed by the American Medical Association in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Association.  The Guide provides:

• Red flags for unsafe driving,
• How to assess functional ability for driving
• Interventions to improve the safety of older drivers,
• Legal and ethical responsibilities,
• Medical conditions that may impair driving,
• Medications that may impair driving
• Recent research about older drivers.
