The History, Culture and Politics of an Early Modern Irish Castle  

Introduction

In this module, written by historian Ruth Canning, you will take a self-guided tour of the Kilcolman Castle compound in Virtual Reality that describes the importance of many objects related to the castle’s multifaceted history, including its ethnic and political background within the context of late-sixteenth century Munster in Ireland. Further reading related to the objects and topics are provided in the Bibliography/Additional Reading section of this page; this material is directly referenced by the VR tour. In-depth Teaching Materials are also provided here that give instructions on teaching with the module. These materials can be freely used in your own classrooms. The module is keyed towards history seminars at the advanced undergraduate level.
