Exploring the Archaeology and Architecture of Kilcolman Castle

Introduction

This is one of two related modules written by archaeologist Victoria McAlister. In it, the Archaeology and Architecture: Defense Tour, you visit the Kilcolman Castle compound in Virtual Reality. This module's guiding avatar is Brian MacCarthy, a native Irish thief from Munster. He describes, through his own particular point of view and within the context of late-sixteenth-century Ireland, the importance of many objects and features that make up the castle’s architectural design and complex history.

Further instruction and reading related to the objects and topics are provided on the Teaching Resources page linked from this module. This material, including a Bibliography/Additional Reading section, is directly referenced by the VR tour. In-depth Teaching Materials are also provided on that page that give instructions on teaching with the module. These materials can be freely used in your own classrooms. The module is keyed towards archaeology and public history seminars at the undergraduate level.
