Journal of Statistics Education Data Archive - lots of data sets
OKCupid -- A very large dataset (N = 68,371, 2,620 variables) from the dating site OKCupid is presented and made publicly available for use by others. I can see using in this my stats classes. The data are compressed into 7-zip file, which, when uncompressed, is in csv format. Much of the data are alphanumeric and will need be recoded to numeric for some analyses.
R Data Sets -- many sets of data, in CSV format, not just for R users. At the end of the DOC links are html documents, but for some reason they load into my browsers as code that is not executed. To avoid this problem, download the file (save link as) and then open the downloaded html file with a web browser.
The Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research -- lots of interesting data sets here
When you download a data file, you may need to reformat it so that it is easier to use with your favorite stats software. Here is an example of how to convert a tab-delimited text data file to an Excel .xlsx file or an SPSS .sav file.
