    When you register your SPSS 19 you will quickly discover that IBM is not really interested in marketing this product to scientists, social or natural.

    IBM's disinterest in academe is also reflected in their licensing policies.  At ECU they have made changes to discourage faculty from using SPSS at home and to discourage student use of SPSS.  Perhaps they recognize that open-source statistical software, like R, is the future, and they had best rape current SPSS users before they defect.
