What Former HEP Study Abroad Students Are Saying....

"Studying Abroad truly changed me to my core.  I am so grateful for the experience.  There is nothing more important that you can do while at ECU."

-Taylor McCurry,

(England, 2015 & 2016)

"It's hard to put into words what my experience studying abroad in London meant to me. I feel there is nothing I can say to truly represent the impact that it had on my life.  The incredible knowledge gained and the special relationships that I formed are only a few examples of what I believe will long outlast my four years at East Carolina.  I learned not only about a healthcare system and culture that are entirely new to me, but I also learned a tremendous amount about myself as well."
-Summer Long

"What an amazing experience!  We studied with key leaders in the British National Health Service, Parliament, Cambridge University Hospitals, Public Health England, the World Health Organization and other important national health organizations.  I saw all the famous sites and had so many incredible new experiences- all while in the company of some of my favorite ECU peers and faculty.  I highly recommend this program to all students!"

"Studying abroad in London was one of the best experiences I've had as a student at ECU.  Learning about the health care system in a different country was very interesting, and meeting with the organizations that we did was an amazing privilege.  The people we met with were very informative and knowledgeable.  We were also able to explore London and many of its iconic sites.  I walked away from the experience with amazing memories- and friends who I will keep in touch with for years to come."

"This study abroad trip gave me a whole new perspective on alternative public health systems! We went on so many site visits, but also had a lot of free time to go and explore London together. Highlights of the trip included a visit with a Member of Parliament, seeing the cars below on top of the London Bridge, looking at art older than our country itself, standing on the two sides of the Prime Meridian in Greenwich, the farewell medieval banquet, and, of course, eating fish and chips. Many of us also went on to explore other parts of Europe after the trip, which I highly recommend! What made this trip unforgettable were the site visits to different health organizations around England, from which I gained lots of insight on public health, as well as the fantastic faculty directors."

"During my stay in London, I had the opportunity to meet and talk with so many important people.  I learned so much about the UK health care system as well as acquired tons of traveling skills--ones that you will never learn in the everyday classroom setting.  What I loved most was how well the academic aspects of the program were combined with fun and site-seeing.  It was a privilege to study abroad with the brightest student and the most loving and caring faculty in a country that has one of the best health care systems in the world."
