Animals
Although Belem is in the Amazon Basin, it is a big city (carved out of the rain forest many years ago). We have spent most of our time either in Belem or in coastal settings, so we have seen very little wildlife. The one exception was at the zoological park in the city -- a fantastic piece of rainforest with both caged and free-roaming aanimals of all sorts. The birds (the scarlet ibis was my favorite) there are fantasitic, as are the snakes, turtles, electric eel, and river manatee. But, there are no pictures of those here, only photos of the few species of "wildlife" Paul and I have seen in our coastal and city travels.
