What to do if you miss class:
Notifying Me
and Getting Class Notes.
You can notify me before or after you miss if you want,
but you are under no
obligation to do so.
Please don't ask if you've missed anything
important. The answer is always "yes."
Every class we discuss material that matters to the class and may be on an exam.
Remember, it's your responsibility to get any notes
and information from a classmate.
There are not any makeup assignments
available when you miss; just do the reading and get the notes.
Quizzes.
If you are absent on a day there is a quiz, that grade will be entered
as a zero. There are no make-up quizzes.
in part
because all the answers are given during class after the quiz is handed in;
anyone who took a makeup
would have an unfair advantage.
Your four
lowest grades are dropped when I calculate your final class grade at the end of the semester.
I do not delete any grades from the grade book as we
go - Canvas is the permanent record of all grades.
The low quiz grades will always be in your Canvas total, which means that the total % is not
currently accurate; it is likely higher.
To get a sense of your
accurate grade at any point in the semester, you can "drop" them yourself and do
the math.
Absences, Illness, and Medical/Doctor's
Notes.
You need to keep track of how many classes you have missed so you don't violate the policy and suffer penalties.
Save absences for when you really need them,
like an illness or injury.
If you are sick and might infect others, use an
absence, stay home, and recover.
A Doctor's Note does not equal an excused absence; you already
have five excused absences as part of the course policy.
Do not send me your Doctor's Notes. Save them in case
your health situation becomes ongoing.
If you have a serious, ongoing
documented medical condition/situation that will require missing several
classes,
please talk to
me; we will make arrangements.
Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.
