Scholarships for Geology Field Course Students

 

       The National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) annually awards $750 scholarships to students, who attend a recognized 6-hour credit Summer Geology Field Course.  The North Carolina Geology Field Course is a “Recognized Summer Geology Field Course by the NAGT and has had NAGT Scholarship recipients in attendance in recent years, including two in 2010 and one each in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018.  These $750 scholarships are highly competitive, and the application deadline is February 14, 2019.  Application information, application criteria, and application forms can be found at the NAGT Website.

 

       The Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG) annually awards two $750 scholarships to encourage promising young women to pursue geoscience careers through attendance at a geology field camp.  The application deadline for the two AWG field camp awards is February 14, 2019.  Application information, application criteria, and application forms can be found at the AWG Website.

   

AIPG Student Scholarships - $1,000 each - February 1st Deadline

       Students need to get their applications in by February 1st, 2019 for the AIPG Scholarship Program. Several scholarships in the amount of ~$1,000 each will be awarded to declared undergraduate geological science majors who are at least sophomores attending a college or university in the U.S.  Nineteen were awarded in 2018.  Student recipients must be a student member of AIPG. The purpose of the scholarship program is to assist students with college education costs and to promote student participation in the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). Scholarships are to be used to support tuition and/or room and board.  Each student who is awarded a scholarship agrees, by accepting the scholarship, to prepare a 600 to 800 word article for publication in the AIPG bimonthly journal "The Professional Geologist" (TPG). The subject of the article must be related to a timely professional issue.  These awards are not strictly for Geology Field Course but may be used to help pay for Geology Field Course tuition and fees.

AIPG Application Process

Applicants must submit a letter of interest with name, mail and e-mail address, and telephone number; proof of enrollment in an eligible geological sciences program, transcripts; an original one-page essay on why the applicant wants to become a geologist; and a letter of support from a faculty member familiar with the applicant's academic work. GSA/ExxonMobil Field Camp Scholar Awards

GSA and ExxonMobil are excited to announce a new award for undergraduate students to attend summer field camp. Twenty students will be awarded $2,000 each to attend the field camp of their choice based on diversity, economic/financial need, and merit.

The application period will be open from ~mid-February – April 14, 2019. 

Your complete application will consist of:

  • an online resume,
  • two letters of recommendation,
  • academic transcripts, and
  • a cover letter indicating your background (coursework and any pursuits you have outside of academia that would relate to this program), your plans for the future (short-term and long-term) and how you feel this award will help you accomplish these plans. Please address our criteria of diversity, economic/financial need, and merit as well as indicating which field camp you plan to attend.
