Psi  Welcome to the
Psychology Computer Labs
 at
East Carolina University

Jump to Links at bottom of this web page -- includes links to web-pages for Psychology courses that use this facility.

Our labs are located in Rawl rooms 135, 208, and 304. These labs are teaching labs - that is, they will be open for faculty to take their students to use the computers in an instructional setting.

As a user of this lab, there are several things you need to know. This lab is a shared resource, and we want each user to behave in a considerate manner. I have listed here a number of lab tips and regulations that were designed to make the lab a more useful place for all users. Please read these and abide by them. Thanks. Please note that I have provided, at the bottom of this page, links to resources likely to be of interest to users of this lab.

  1. This facility is for the use of students who are taking classes in Psychology.  It is opened only at times scheduled by the instructors of those classes.  There are not times which are scheduled for "general purpose use," that is, times during which the lab serves any person who wishes to walk in and check email, surf the web, and so on.  That said, the instructors of the classes held in this lab may, at their discretion, allow such general purpose use if it does not interfere with their conduct of class.

  2. DO NOT TURN OFF THESE COMPUTERS. They are set to save energy by powering down the monitors and disk drives after a period of inactivity.  Turning them off only makes it more difficult for the next user to log on.

  3. Only persons with valid ECU accounts are permitted to use these computers. You need to log on by entering your userid and password, which are the same as for your ECU email account. To log on with these computers, hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Del keys simultaneously. Enter your userid (such as KLW1127) in the username field. Enter your password in the password field, and select or enter INTRA in the domain field, OK. If the previous user has left the machine without logging off, you should log that user off (Ctrl, Alt, Del, Log Off, Log Off) and then log yourself on.

  4. When you are done using the computer, be sure to log yourself off -- hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Del keys simultaneously and click on Log Off.  Be careful not to lock the computer.

  5. If you need to save files (Word documents, statistical output, etc.), please save them to a diskette or flash drive you brought with you. The computer will not allow you write access to the hard drive, excepting the 2 gb T:\ partition. You should have access to the T drive. To access the T drive, open My Computer, click on Make a New Folder, and give the folder a name that is your name. You can now write files to that folder. This space should be considered only temporary space. Anything you write here can be deleted or altered by other users.

  6. This lab welcome page should be defined as the home page on every computer, so that users can access this page simply by clicking HOME in the browser. Please do not change the home page setting.

  7. Eating, drinking, and smoking are strictly forbidden in the lab. Food is not allowed in the lab under any circumstances. Beverage containers, even empty beverage containers, are allowed in the lab only if they are sealed and in a book bag or other such device on the floor away from the computers.

  8. The printer in this lab is to be used only for bone fide educational purposes. Those printing large documents or multiple copies of documents or documents of questionable educational value may be asked to justify their use of the printer and to pay expenses for any unjustified use of the printer.

  9. When the lab director, or authorized service person, asks the user to move to another machine so e can service the machine the user is on, the user should do so.

  10. Lab users are responsible for behaving in accord with East Carolina University's Computer Use Policies.

  11. Faculty who schedule activities in Rawl 135 are responsible for the conduct of their students in the lab.

Those who violate these guidelines may be subject to disciplinary action, including, but not limited to, suspension of the privilege of using this computer lab.
