Back to the Future

PSYC 2101: Day 1, Monday the 19th of May, 2014

  1. Go to the course base page at http://core.ecu.edu/psyc/wuenschk/start01.htm . Read this document carefully.
  2. Download and complete the document at http://core.ecu.edu/psyc/wuenschk/docs01/post01.docx . Deliver the completed document to Professor Karl.
  3. Read the article "Psychology degrees: Employment, wage, and career trajectory consequences," which can be found under "Jobs in Psychology" in the Articles folder in BlackBoard.
  4. Read and study the first two chapters in the text book. They are short.
  5. Professor Karl starts his introductory lecture.
  6. Read the document at http://core.ecu.edu/psyc/wuenschk/docs01/Howell_1-2.pdf .
  7. Read Professor Karl's document about the difference between interval and ratio data.
  8. Complete the "Introductions" assignment in the Discussion Board. This assignment is due at 5 PM on Thursday the 22nd of May, 2014.

During today's lab meeting

  1. Anne is currently scheduled to cover your class Monday through Friday from 1130 until 1230.  She should set up an additional eight hours, outside of class time, during which she will be available to help you with this class.  You and Anne should decide when those hours should be scheduled.  Be sure to let Professor Karl know what you all decide.  We shall modify her schedule later when she is more confident about what days she will not be on campus.
  2. Complete the survey that will provide us with data for use later.
  3. Work on the "Introductions" assignment.
  4. Anne will teach you how to prepare, by hand, frequency distribution tables, bar graphs, histograms, and frequency polygons.  Here is an outline of this activity. Later she will teach you how to do all this with SPSS.

PSYC 2101: Day 2, Tuesday the 20th of May, 2014

  1. Professor Karl continues his introductory lecture, Slide 10 onwards.
  2. Read Chapter 3, Displaying Data, and 4 (Measures of Central Tendency) in our text.
  3. Read the document Descriptive Statistics .
  4. Professor Karl lectures on Descriptive Statistics.

PSYC 2101: Day 3, Wednesday the 21st of May, 2014
  1. Read Chapters 4 (Measures of Central Tendency) and 5 (Measures of Variability) in our text.
  2. Read the document Descriptive Statistics .
  3. Professor Karl lectures on Descriptive Statistics , Slide 16 onwards.

PSYC 2101: Day 4, Thursday the 22nd of May, 2014
  1. The "Introductions" assignment is due at 5 PM today.  Don't forget to upload a photo -- that alone earns two of the seven points for this assignment.
  2. Read Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA)
  3. Professor Karl lectures on EDA .
  4. Read The Normal Distribution and Chapter 6 in our text book.
  5. Professor Karl lectures on The Normal Distribution.

In lab today,

  1. Complete the EDA Exercises.  Remember to bring your text to class, as you will need it for these exercises.
  2. Complete the exercise in the document Using SPSS to Explore the IntroQuest Data File. This exercise involves your exploring the data from the questionnaire we completed early this semester.  Completing this exercise will prepare you to complete the Descriptive Statistics Homework, which is due tomorrow at 5 PM.

PSYC 2101: Day 5, Friday the 23rd of May, 2014
  1. The Normal Distribution,  Slide 14 onwards.
  2. Read Basic Probability .
  3. Professor Karl starts lecturing on  basic probability .
