Electronic Submission of the Thesis or Dissertation

Instructions for submitting your thesis or dissertation electronically are available from The Graduate School.  Here I shall comment on the guidelines provided by The Graduate School.

Please note that there is a deadline for submission of the final copy of your thesis or dissertation to the Graduate School.  You can find these deadlines on the ETD Page.

  1. After you have successfully defended your thesis or dissertation and made the changes recommended by your committee, obtain committee members' signatures on the signature page (You will also need the signature of the chair of our department on the signature page) and complete the ECU Non-Exclusive Distribution AgreementYour thesis/dissertation will be published by ECU.  You can choose to have it made available to anybody or just to persons at ECU.  You can also put an embargo on it, for up to two years, preventing it from being so published during the embargo.  If you fail to embargo, some journals may refuse to publish an article based on your work.  Best to put on a two-year embargo.  If desired, the embargo can be extended later.

  2. The signed signature page and the ECU Non-Exclusive Distribution Agreement will be uploaded during the electronic submission process.  Warning:  Some journals may refuse to consider your thesis or dissertation for publication if you do not embargo it at this step (prevent the university from publishing it for up to two years, and this embargo can be extended if necessary).  You may be able to find information about publishers' copyright policies at http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/ .

  3. To submit your thesis or dissertation electronically, go to the Vireo site.

  4. Bound copies

The Graduate School no longer requires that you purchase bound copies of the thesis or dissertation.  In June of 2016 Susan McCammon advised that Psychology no longer requires bound copies.
