East Carolina University
Department of Psychology
Theses and Dissertations.
Karl Wuensch provides statistical, design, and computing consultation to students on whose thesis or dissertation committee he sits. Because of excessive demands for his services, Karl has had to place the following restrictions upon his delivery of consultation without fee:
Consultation for Fee.
Karl Wuensch provides statistical, design, and computing consultation to businesses, corporations, and individuals for a fee of $200 per hour. He may be willing to offer such services to graduate students (who are not in Psychology and with whom he has no association as a member of the University) at East Carolina University at a discount rate ($100/hr instead of $200/hr) if they do not have grant funds to pay for consultation. It must be understood that such services are not a part of his job at the university. If a student went to the private office of a physician who was also on staff at ECU's medical school, she would not expect to be examined without fee, would she? Likewise, if a student with whom I have no association within the university comes to me and asks for professional services for a fee, I may choose to provide such services, with the understanding that they are not a part of my job at the university.
To avoid conflicts and misunderstandings about the ethics of a graduate student paying a faculty member for statistical consultation, Karl will not provide paid consulting to a graduate student at East Carolina University until he has the written consent of every member of that student's thesis or dissertation committee.
This is not an advertisement for my services for fee, but simply a statement of policy.
Hiring a Student as a Consultant.
I may be willing to recommend a graduate student who may be willing to consult for a few lower than mine. Typically I recommend that the student not accept a fee lower than $50 an hour, but other than making a recommendation, I am not a part of any such consultation for fee provided by graduate students at ECU. If you hire a graduate student at my recommendation, she, not I, is working for you, and she is not working for me.
Statistical Consulting for Faculty at ECU.
Consider using the ITCS Statistical Consulting, Stat Lab, and/or ESTAT-L.
