Study of selected twentieth-century styles and genres through listening, analysis, and written assignments. Emphasis on analytical techniques applicable to post-tonal music of the twentieth century.
1. Pre-requisite: Successful completion of MUSC 2156
2. Regular prompt attendance and class participation are strictly required. You are permitted two unexcused absences. Only medical and Official school of Music off-campus performances and tours will excuse absence. Each unexcused absence, beyond two, will reduce your final grade by 5 points (i.e., half-letter grade).
3. Completion of all reading and written assignments.
4. Four (May 25, June 3, June 10, June 17) quizzes, and a final exam (June 23).
Your grade will be based on many components, roughly weighted as follows:
| Class Participation, Attendance | 15% |
| Written homework assignments | 20% |
| Quizzes (May 25, June 3, June 10, June 17) | 40% |
| Final Exam (June 23) | 25% |
Grading is on a standard scale
> 90% = A
> 80% = B
> 70% = C
> 60% = D
< 60% = F
