Graduate students, sophomore, junior or senior undergraduates accepted or enrolled at ECU are eligible to apply for full scholarships to complete a bachelor's or master's degree or a certificate in an information assurance discipline.

 

Minimum eligibility requirements are listed below

a)      You must be 18 years of age or older.

b)      You must be a citizen of the United States at the time of application.

c)      Undergraduate students must have a 3.0 out of a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) while graduate students must have a 3.2 GPA out of 4.0.

d)      You must be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) as a full-time student in one of the following programs at ECU’s Department of Technology Systems:

-BS in Information & Computer Technology Program

-BS in Industrial Technology Program –Information & Computer Technology Concentration-

-MS in Technology Systems Program -Information Security Concentration-

-MS in Technology Systems Program -Digital Communications-

-MS in Technology Systems Program -Computer Network Management-

-Information Assurance Certificate Program

e)      Undergraduate applicants must have completed (or by September 2008 will have completed) at a minimum the first two years of an undergraduate degree program and be eligible to begin either the third or fourth years of an undergraduate degree program;

f)   Graduate applicants must begin the first or second year of a masters degree program in August 2008 or be enrolled in Information Assurance graduate certificate program as of August 2008.

g)   You must be a full-time student.

 

Students selected for the program will receive scholarships (including tuition, books, fees, and a stipend). During breaks in their academic studies, Information Assurance Scholars will receive progressive, hands-on experience in information security internships. In return, scholars must agree to some restrictions and obligations regarding curriculum, GPA and post-program employment. If all conditions are met, Information Assurance Scholars who elect to serve a period of obligated service as civilian employees will receive full-time permanent positions with the Department of Defense on program completion. Alternately, scholarship recipients may elect to serve a period of obligated service as a member of the National Guard or Reserves. Information assurance scholarships will pay for

-The full cost of tuition,

-Fees, books,

-Lab expenses, required equipment and supplies

-A stipend to cover room and board expenses: undergraduate students will receive a stipend of $12,000, and graduate (masters and PhD) students will receive a stipend of $17,000, per academic year. 

Disabled students may receive additional allowances. There are no allowances for dependents.  Additional years of scholarship awards are dependent upon satisfactory academic progress, internship performance, and the availability of funds. Scholarship recipients who successfully complete the terms of an initial one or two year scholarship (for example, complete an undergraduate degree), may apply for a second scholarship of up to two years for completing an advanced degree or graduate certificate program.
