The
interdisciplinary program in Asian Studies Program offers a minor for students
seeking to explore Asia from a variety of disciplinary perspectives in
the humanities and social sciences. The two required courses, "Introduction
to Asia" (ASIA 2000) and "Senior Seminar in Asian Studies" (ASIA 4000),
provide students with the essential foundations for understanding Asian
cultures, traditional and modern, as well as a chance to engage in focused
research that builds upon the breadth of courses taken in fulfilling the
minor requirements. In addition to these courses, students are encouraged
to study Asian languages and take advantage of study-abroad opportunities
in Asia. Summer programs in Kyoto, Japan, Dharmasala, India, and academic
year programs at Osaka Educational University (Osaka Kyoiku Daigaku) are
among the many programs that Asian Studies minors can participate in towards
completion of their programs of study. The Asian Studies Program also coordinates
the ECU Annual Lecture in Asian Studies, delivered by an internationally-known
scholar of Asian Studies.
