OBJECTIVES
National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies
- 6.1 Examine the rights and responsibilities of the individual in relation to his or her social
group, such as family, peer group, and school class.
- 6.8 Recognize and give examples of the tensions between the wants and needs of
individuals and groups, and concepts such as fairness, equity, and justice.
- 10.2 Identify examples of rights and responsibilities.
National Geographic Standards
- 13 How the forces of cooperation and conflict among people influence the division and
control of earth's surface.
North Carolina Standard Course of Study
- 4.1 Suggest and justify rules and laws for neighborhoods and communities.
- 4.2 Suggest the consequences of not obeying rules and laws.
- 4.5 Evaluate fair and unfair procedures for dealing with neighborhood and community
problems.
- 4.6 Distinguish aspects of the justice system evident in neighborhoods and communities.
