    PROJECT 3: ALLEN PARKER SLAVE NARRATIVE
    Third Grade

    STANDARDS

    National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies

    1a. Explore and describe similarities and differences in the ways groups, societies, and cultures address similar human needs and concerns.

    1b. Give examples of how experiences may be interpreted differently by people from diverse cultural perspectives and frames of reference.

    1c. Describe ways in which languages, stories, folktales, music, and artistic creations serve as expressions of culture and influence behavior of people living in a particular culture.

    2c. Compare and contrast different stories or accounts about past events, people, places, or situations, identifying how they contribute to our understanding of the past.

    3a. Construct and use mental maps of locales, regions, and the world that demonstrate understanding of relative location, direction, size and shape.

    5a. Identify roles as learned behavior patterns in group situations such as student, family member, peer play group member, or club member.

    2-1. The locations of places within the local community and in nearby communities.
