PROJECT 1: A UNIT ON SLAVERY

    By Dorothy V. Matheson

    OVERVIEW

In this learning experience, the students will learn about the experiences of a child slave in the 1800s. Students will understand the roles of both children and adults during the times of slavery. They will compare and contrast the lives of the children in slavery to their lives in the 20th century.

Students will also delve into the aspects of the justice system during the 1800s: were there rights for slaves, and if so, were they just?; how were problems solved?; and did the government give support to slaves? Finally, students will understand the causes and effects of slavery by understanding the past and relating it to the future.
