    PROJECT 6: POST-CIVIL WAR CHOICES:
    Ex-Slave Settlements
    vs.
    Colonization of Liberia

    ACTIVITY #4

    The students will participate in a formal debate. The debate topic will be: "Staying in the United States after the Civil War was the best choice ex-slaves could have made." Students who studied the settlement of ex-slaves will take the "pro" stance and those who studied the colonization of Liberia will take the "con" stance. The format of the debate will be as follows:

      6 minutes - "Pro" side offers their argument
      3 minutes - "Con" side gets to question them
      6 minutes - "Con" side offers their argument
      3 minutes - "Pro" side asks questions
      5 minutes - "Pro" side gives their rebuttal
      3 minutes - "Con" side asks questions
      5 minutes - "Con" side gives their rebuttal
      3 minutes - "Pro" side asks questions
      6 minutes - "Pro" side gives their closing argument
      6 minutes - "Con" side gives their closing argument
