    PROJECT 6: POST-CIVIL WAR CHOICES:
    Ex-Slave Settlements
    vs.
    Colonization of Liberia

    By Suzanne Averitt

    ACTIVITY #1

After reading "The Allen Parker Story," students will participate in a Socratic Seminar. The first question asked will be: "What would you have named this story if you were writing it?" Each student must answer the question and none may repeat what another has said. Afterwards, I will compare the titles students have chosen and ask different students to explain why they chose their title. From there, the discussion will be student led, with me acting as a facilitator. I will assess student knowledge and participation by keeping track of how many times each student has spoken and what they have said. As the students leave, I will ask them to be thinking about what Allen Parker's life was like after the war ended and he gained his freedom. I will tell them we will be discussing this subject the next day.
