Course Format

The course syllabi are your aids to survival in this course. Keep them handy and in mind at all times! Neither the lecture schedule nor the laboratory schedule will change significantly without advance notice from me.   But, I will change them when necessary, so be alert and listen for the change announcements.

 

  • Lectures: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30 - 10:45 am., Rm. 309 Graham

 

  • Labs: Thursdays 12:30 - 3:20 p.m., Rm. 208 Graham (or as announced weekly in lecture)

 

 

Reading

 

  • Earth Surface Processes, Landforms and Sediment Deposits, by J. Bridge and R. Demicco, 2008 (available at the campus bookstore and on line; the Amazon.com cost is $72.00 (new) and  42.96 (used)). 

 

  • Supplementary Reading may be assigned throughout the semester (and will be made available in pdf format)

 

 

Field Trips

2 required field trips, and accompanying written reports, as follows:

  • September 12 (Saturday) Field Trip #1 -- Tar River

 

 

Field trip very-foul-weather dates (to be used only when absolutely necessary): 9/13, 9/14, 11/01, and 11/02.  We will have 2 required field trips this semester, even if we must use the very-foul-weather dates to do so!  Note that it is impossible to complete the field trip reports (hence, virtually impossible to pass the class) without participating in these field trips.  Please arrange your schedule accordingly.
 

Exams

  • Mid-term exam – Available on-line 10/20 (linked to the lecture syllabus), DUE at or before (!) 10:45 am on Thursday, October 22nd.
  • Second exam – Available on-line 12/09 (linked to lecture syllabus), DUE at or before (!) 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 15th

 

Grading

  • Exams (both, not each) -- 35%
  • Laboratory Exercises -- 15%
  • Meaningful participation in Classroom and Laboratory Activities and Discussions -- 10%
