New Announcement!!!
Ph.D. Opportunity in the
Coastal Resources Management (CRM) program at East Carolina University

A two year project that will examine the source and transport of land-derived material (dissolved and particulate) impacting the coastal waters of North Carolina is expected to begin early 2012. This project, to be funded by NC Sea Grant, will involve an integrated approach of innovative technologies including satellite remote sensing, fluorescence spectroscopy and geochemical analysis. Dr. Brent McKee, UNC Chapel Hill, is a co-invesigator. The primary goal of the project is to gain a better understanding of coupled land, river and coastal aquatic systems in the context of maintaining and managing coastal water resources.

Interested students are encouraged to contact Dr. Richard Miller (
millerri@ecu.edu) for more information on this project or Dr. Hans Vogelsong (vogelsongh@ecu.edu), Director, for more information of the CRM program.

General Information
I have a joint appointment as a Professor at East Carolina University in the Department of Geological Sciences and in the Institute of Coastal Science and Policy (ICSP). As such, I serve as a major advisor for MS students majoring in Geological Sciences and PhD students pursuing a degree in the ICSP Coastal Resources Management (CRM) Program. Additionally, I serve as a mentor to undergraduate students from several disciplines and help them learn how to use remote sensing and the tools available in my lab.

I am always looking for talented and motivated students to be a part of my research team. For more information, I encourage you to visit the sites listed below, contact my current students (listed in the lab section of my main site) or of course, contact me directly. I would be happy to discuss options and opportunities for a graduate degree program here at ECU.
