Understanding Master Pages
Think of the Master Pages as a template for the layout of the Body Pages. These Master Pages define the layout of text, headers and footers, and graphics that are repeated throughout the document.
1. To display the Master Pages, click View > Master Pages.
Notice that the only items that appear
on the page are the date, memo heading, the gray world map image in the
background, and the words Running H/F 1 along the left side of the document.
These items that were predetermined in the memo template creation process,
are controlled on the Master Pages, and they can only be manipulated
while in this mode. You now have some control over these items whereas
you did not while in the Body Pages mode.
Say for instance, you want to change the Date of the memo to a future date. Remember, when the memo template initially opened and while you were in the Body Pages mode, today's date automatically appeared and you could not change it.
2. To change the date, highlight the date
and type in the date of choice.
Say for instance, you want to change the Font, Size, and Style of the memo heading. Remember, when the memo template initially opened and while you are in the Body Pages mode, the predetermined Font, Size, and Style of the memo heading was Arial, 36 pt., bold.
3. To change the Font of the memo heading, highlight the memo heading and click Format > Font.
4. The Font drop down menu appears and you scroll over and down and choose Garamond. The memo heading Font automatically changes to Garamond.
5. To change the Size of the memo heading, click Format > Size.
6. The Size drop down menu appears and you scroll over and down and choose 24 pt.The memo heading Size automatically changes to 24 pt.
7. To change the Style of the memo heading, click Format > Style.
8. The Style drop down menu appears and
you scroll over and down and choose Italic. The memo heading Style automatically
changes to Italic.
Say for instance, you do not like the look of your name along the left side of the document. Remember, when the memo template initially opens, the word Your Company Name is located along the left-hand side of the document. You changed it to your name by refreshing the document (ctrl + l) after you typed in your address information. You can change the Font, Style, and Size of it just as you did with the memo heading or you can delete it all together.
9. To delete your name along the left-hand
side of the document, highlight your name and press the Delete button
on the keyboard.
Say for instance, you do not like the look of the gray world map image located in the background of the Memo template. Remember, when the Memo template initially opened, the image of the world map was gray in color and was located in the background. You can change the color or delete the image all together.
10. To change the color of the gray world map image, click on the image itself. Click on an area outside of any dotted lines, then small black boundary squares appear around the entire image.
11. Click Graphics > Object Properties.
12. When the small Object Properties box opens, change the color to Magenta and click Set. The world map image automatically changes from Gray to Magenta.
13. If you want to delete the image all together, follow step 10 and then click Edit > Cut. The world map image automatically deletes from the memo.
The
keyboard shortcut for the cut command is Ctrl + X.
