Graduate-level Courses to Be Offered [Summer Sessions & Fall 2008]In preparation for registration, read through this page. After early enrollment, registration will continue until classes begin. Some quick links:
Information about registration from Brent Henze, Lead Faculty, TPC Before registering, you need to communicate with the TPC graduate adviser, Dr. Sherry Southard, to discuss your summer and/or fall schedule plans. The best way to communicate with Dr. Southard is by sending her an email first with some details about your summer and fall schedule interests and other matters such as your work schedule (are you working full-time? part-time? are you a full-time student?) Also indicate what courses you're interested in (if you know yet), and any other information that will help you and Dr. Southard to determine a schedule. (You and Dr. Southard may decide that it's best to talk by phone or in an office visit, but you should first communicate with her by email, since she's advising about 70 students!) Here's what to do in preparation for your advising: 1. Review the graduate course descriptions to see what's available in the summer and fall. Below, I've pasted a list of the TPC course numbers, titles, and instructors. You can get basic descriptions of these courses by visiting the TPC course description page here: http://core.ecu.edu/engl/tpc/tekkom/courses.htm . The description page describes all of our courses, not just those offered this summer and fall. For now, work from the list below, but see the full descriptions on the website. As further information becomes available (for instance, full descriptions of special topics courses, or information about non-TPC courses offered online), I'll distribute it on the TPC-L listserv. Here's the list of TPC graduate courses offered this summer and fall: Summer

If you're in the MA program (not the Certificate program), you may also wish to consider some of the non-TPC courses offered through the department. Those of you in the Greenville area can take any of the department's courses (online or campus). But if you're not local, not to worry: there are several courses available by DE, including courses in linguistics, literature, and multicultural studies. You can see all the courses offered this spring by logging onto Onestop (http://onestop.ecu.edu) and visiting the "Course Catalog" link. (Choose SUBJECT: English and COURSE LEVEL: Graduate and, if appropriate, CAMPUS: DE/Internet.) I'll also post information about non-TPC courses as I hear about them. **A note about internships** If you're interested in completing an internship in the summer or fall, contact me directly at TPCintern@ecu.edu so that we can discuss possible internship projects/positions. 2. Consider what courses, and how many courses, you'd like to take in the summer and fall. If you're a full-time student, you will likely want to take a full course load in the fall (three graduate courses), and you can take as many as two courses in each of the summer sessions. If you're working full-time, you will probably want to take either one course or, at most two courses in the fall (if your full-time job is truly limited to 40 hours per week and your other obligations are minimal); in the summer, you'd probably take one course per session at most. 3. Email Dr. Southard (southards@ecu.edu) with a summary of your thoughts about summer and fall. As you may know, last year the university implemented a new registration system ("Banner"), and that system changed some of the registration procedures. Most importantly for you, the system makes it harder for us to "reserve" spaces in TPC classes for the students in our program (as we've done in the past). That means that it is more important this year for you to act quickly. Ensure that you've settled upon a schedule with Dr. Southard before registration begins so on the 31st that you can register as soon as registration opens! In the "Banner" registration system, you'll register yourself for most of the courses (with a couple exceptions--the internships, which I'll register you for, and possibly the 7730 or 7701.) 1. Obtain or order textbooks from ECU bookstore.
2. Checking out various booksellers and ordering from them. |
