The following is the required text for the course:

• McQuade, Donald, et al, eds. The Harper Single Volume American Literature. 3^rd ed. New York: Longman, 1999.

OTHER REQUIRED MATERIALS:

All students must have a reading notebook. This can take almost any form as long as it is uses standard 8½" x 11" paper. A spiral notebook, a clasp folder, or a thin three-ring binder would be a good choice. The notebook will be used to record reactions to readings and to do occasional in-class reading responses. This must be a separate notebook from that in which you keep class notes, or at least the reading and assignment section must be clearly separate from class notes.
