This course is 100% online. You are always welcome to "talk" with me about class readings and projects face-to-face in my office hours or electronically by e-mail, AIM instant messaging (when I'm logged on, my screen name is "kairos404"), or via the "Questions and Comments " discussion forum on Blackboard.
The assignments, readings, and due dates for projects are listed on the schedule below. We'll use Blackboard for discussion. We'll do a considerable amount of reading and discussion early on to get a basic grounding in the issues.
For purposes of scheduling and due dates, our "weeks" begin on Mondays and end on Sundays. Projects are due by Sunday (the END of the week) by midnight on the weeks that due dates are listed on the schedule. The exception is the last part of Project 2 (activity portfolio), which will be due on a specific day during finals week. Over the course of the semester, this scheduling provides the most weekend time to complete projects for those who rely on weekends. Make sure to check the schedule weekly for expanded information about our activities and links to additional materials and tools as necessary. Activities will be posted at the beginning of the week (Monday) on which they are due (Sunday).
Links (and url's) are fragile and sometimes transient. If you have difficulties accessing the url for a link, please let me know by e-mail or on the discussion board.

Posted Notes: View the presentation that I used to start the Wednesday "live" virtual classroom session. I created it using PowerPoint, Camtasia, and a headset with a mic. Camtasia v.3 (which you can get a free trial of from www.techsmith.com) has a plug in for PowerPoint that is automatically installed in PPT when you install Camtasia on your computer. The plugin lets you easily add audio to a presentation and it records the presentation as you click through it.
When you're done recording, Camtasia automatically opens so that you can save your presentation. I saved this example presentation in Flash format because that keeps the file size fairly small. Camtasia creates the .swf file as well as an html file and other files needed to display the media. I also used Camtasia to adjust the size of the presentation because I needed it to fit in the virtual classroom window without requiring users to scroll. Then I loaded it up to my server space and opened the link in the Blackboard Virtual Classroom using the Group Browser.
