Start-up Needs
This page includes information on:
- required, preferred, and optional equipment;
- useful computing and learning skills;
- sources for upgrading equipment.
Technological Necessities
1. Any web browser: Amaya, Internet Explorer, Lynx, Mosaic, Netscape, or one from your Internet Service Provider (AOL, CompuServe, EarthLink, and the like). Internet Explorer is preferred; upgrading to the most recent version would also be useful.
2. Email access (Any commercial ISP email program, Microsoft Exchange, any dial-in software that provides access to campus email, a variety of "free" web-based email services [yahoo, excite, hotmail, etc.]). See the bottom of the page for "free" email sources.
3. The ability to use messaging and discussion areas. AOL-Instant Messenger (AIM) is the preferred chat software for this course; see foot of page for downloading information. We'll use ECU Blackboard for asynchrnous, threaded discussion.
4. A typical, contemporary word processor.

4. Prepare word processing files in a specific format.
5. Use Blackboard to contribute to discussion and submit files (see tutorials and help on Blackboard.)
