Project 3 & 4

For this project, you will work in pairs on a longer document that I will provide. The project has several parts:

(1) Prepare a memo discussing your editorial decisions.

(2) Prepare a style guide.

(3) Complete a comprehensive edit based on the style guide.

(4) Interact with the "author".

(5) Make corrections to the document and write queries about any remaining issues.

(6) Prepare a table of contents for the document.

Project instructions/Timeline

Getting started:

Read the project description

• Form teams (pairs of students)
• Get electronic copy OR scan a hardcopy document into Word to create a Word .doc file or .rtf file. Work files
• Work with others to plan a revision
• Query the "author" on Blackboard thread provided about any initial issues.

• Read replies to queries, assess the document, and develop a style guide.
• Begin editing process.

Editing:

• Conduct a comprehensive, electronic edit of the document according to the style guide and CMS/Rude.
• Create headers and/or footers, table of contents, and index. (I will provide additional information about these tasks.)
• Write a brief memo to the author (and me) explaining your editorial choices.
• Submit project.
