Beating the
Odds: Teaching Middle and High School Students to Read and Write Well
l Does
English Matter? By Robert Scholes: "[Books] are
being broken up, commodified, and packaged for handy consumption and
recirculation. As our Romantic faith in the spiritual value of literary
texts has waned, we have found ourselves more and more requiring knowledge
about texts instead of encouraging the direct experience of these
texts. l Are Schools Safe?

SENIOR PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENT
|
|
|
East
Carolina University School of Education requires that each senior
complete a Senior Portfolio. The portfolio will have three main requirements:
(1) Instructional Practice contains four areas of competency
related to INSTASC Standards. Students will be required to develop
a Unit of Instruction which has goals related to the NC Standard Course
of Study, student artifacts, assessment data, a performance video
(recommended but not required), and reflection of the instructional
practice; (2) North Carolina Technology Competencies for
Educators checklist with approval by the EDTC 4001 instructor
indicating mastery of the each competency required. The checklist
is currently in paper format, but will also be available online for
student access; and (3) The Classroom Management Component
which includes four competencies: classroom rules and protocols, levels
of consequences for inappropriate behavior, an implementation plan,
and intervention strategies. Additional
information. Also see General
