Congratuations!
You have completed all of the base
camp sections. Many of the ideas that we have introduced will be addressed
again in this 2nd trail. This section won't be as time intensive as the
last.
Keep up the great contributions to the threaded discussion board. The quantity and quality of discussion has begun to ramp up as some of your book orders finally arrived in the last two weeks, and we've all begun to get the hang of blackboard. Good luck on Trail 1. |

GOALS
|
This is the
on-ramp to joining the big
thinker club --the women and men that always sound so pompous
at parties. After this section, you shouldn't be able to overhear a
colleague say "I use method X because it works," without wanting to
use the following retort: Works for what? or...
Whom? When? For what agenda? And who set that agenda? From what perspective?
In other words, by the end of this month, nobody will want to share
tuna-fish and juice with you in the school lounge.
I know that the culture of teaching often (rightly) resists philosophy and curriculum foundations because they are often left ungrounded in practice. I've tried to avoid some of this by choosing a text that is practical, and by also populating this section with some of my favorite practical ideas (like this lesson plan site). My hope is that you will accept a little sky with a little earth. Additionally, you will brainstorm and finally narrow your research question and begin filling in items on the research chart which is already located on your course home page. Cute sites by the way! |
