The British Empire was unique in its relationship with and use of Christianity, particularly in her formal and informal colonies. Britain accepted the responsibility of executing Christ's great commission (Matthew 26:28-36; Mark 16:20-22) to her colonies, and she did a splendid job of bringing the light to the heart of darkness, but among the missionary wheat were the tares (Matthew) who, dressed in the cloak of Christianity, misused the Bible and Christianity for selfish, materialistic, and exploitative reasons. It is this aspect of colonialism and Christianization that I wish to focus on. My intention is not to bash Christianity–I am a Christian in the truest sense of the word–but to expose the false use of a pseudo-Christianity and highlight important lessons learned for evangelization in an era of globalization.
