Biography Janet
Jagan was born in Chicago, Il on Oct. 20, 1920. Jagan is a nurse that was educated at Cook
County School of Nursing. In 1943,
Jagan went to British Guiana and she began working in Dr. Cheddi Jagan’s
clinic. She married Cheddi Jagan on
Aug. 5, 1943. Jagan is the co-founder
of the People’s Progressive Party. She
has also served as the Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Health. Janet Jagan is the first woman prime
minister of Guiana. She was sworn
in on March 17, 1997. She had to
resign after only 20 months as the prime minister because of health
problems. She has received the
Nation’s Highest Honor, Order of Excellence. |
