Biography Dionne Brand was born in Guayguayare, Trinidad in 1953. She graduated Naparima Girls’ High School and then moved to Toronto. She has lived in Toronto since. Brand graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy and English from the University of Toronto, in 1975. She obtained her M.A. in the philosophy of education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. She got her Ph.D. in women’s history. Since in Canada she has helped form the first black ladies newspaper, Our Lives. Some of her works reflect personnel and national identity, the immigrant experience in Canada, and her experience as a lesbian. |
