Experiment 5
Standardization of NaOH by Titration

FILLING THE BURETTE WITH THE DILUTED BASE

NOTE: Drain any liquid from the burette and rinse the burette with several 10 mL portions of distilled water.

Rinse remaining water from the burette with three 5 mL rinses of 0.3 M NaOH from a 100 mL beaker. Discard each into the acid-base waste container.

WARNING: Do not pour base directly into the burette from your large flask.

Pour 0.3 M NaOH from a 100-mL beaker, nearly filling burette.

Drain base through the tip, removing air bubbles.

NOTE: Air bubbles must be removed from the burette. Remove the funnel prior to taking the initial readings. The burette is now prepared for performing titrations.

Review filling the Burette in Experiment 1.
