Experiment 19
Qualitative Cation Analysis

OBJECTIVES/OVERVIEW

Objectives
The objective is to use solutions known to contain dissolved cations to perform a sequence of procedures by which these cations can be separated and identified. Observations from the known solutions will then be used to identify cations present in an unknown solution.

Overview
In this experiment you will use the differences in the solubility of various cations to perform separations until you reach a solution or precipitate which contains only a single cation.

Once the separations are complete, separate tests are performed to identify positively or confirm the presence of each cation.
