Experiment 17
Titration of a Diprotic Acid: Identifying an Unknown

POST LABORATORY QUESTIONS

Assume that you have two mono-protic acids. One of them is a strong acid and one is a weak acid. Draw an example of a titration curve for each when titrated by a strong base.

Assume that the two acids have identical molar masses and that you have exactly equal quantities of the two acids dissolved in separate titration containers. Compare the quantities of strong base required to reach the equivalence points of each titration.

Draw a picture of the titration curve that you would expect to obtain from titrating a tri-protic acid with a strong base.
