User Management
The User Management features are specifically for enrollment
and organization of course participants. In this area, instructors can
enroll students, provide teaching assistants with accounts, and designate
working groups for student projects.
Each user enrolled in a course must have a username and password. This
must be unique to the user and is used to maintain security within the
course. When new users are added to the course, they are added to the student
roster and a blank homepage is created.
Types
of Users
There are six types of users that can be enrolled into a CourseInfo
course. Each user type has a distinct set of privileges. Be sure to grant
the appropriate privileges to enrolled course participants.
Note: A user can
only be assigned one role within CourseInfo. The Student role is the only
role that can take assessments and have grades recorded in the online gradebook.
Instructor:
Professors have master access over the course functions. This includes
grading assessments, changing grades, enrolling students, assigning students
into study groups, deleting items, and publishing tests.
Teaching Assistant:
Teaching assistants are enrolled into the course with a combination
of development responsibilities. This includes the ability to develop test
questions, verify grades, manage users, and many others.
Grader:
The grader access permits access only to the assessment tools,
gradebook, and drop box.
Course Builder:
Course builders have access to all course functions except the
gradebook.
For example:
If you would like a student enrolled in your course to assist you
in building a CourseSite, create a new account for the student as a Course
Builder, rather than reassigning their Student role to Course Builder.
This will allow the student to participate in the course as a student (participate
in chat, take assessments, etc.) and to assist in the development of the
CourseSite.
Student:
Enrolled students have access to all areas in the course that contain content
and assessments.
Guests:
Guests may enter the course and browse all components. Use the guest
feature when guest speakers, visitors, or other faculty members want to
view the online classroom environment. Guests can login to a course as:
Username: Guest
Password: Guest
