This is a model of elongation proposed by Harry Noller, in which the tRNAs move in a stepwise fashion during elongation. This is called the hybrid states model, and it explains how the tRNAs are positioned. Six different states are defined:
A/T: aminoacyl tRNA entering the A site; First state in selection; fidelity is maintained.
P/A: peptide has been transferred to the A site
E/P: Deacylated tRNA exiting the P site.
