Photographing artwork is another technical process for students to learn. The photographic representation of an artwork is extremely important for an artist to understand because the image will be used to sell and promote your work. Of course you want to put you and your work in the "best light" possible. Photography is also an art in itself. Photos can enhance and confuse. You may be surprised when aspects of the mechanical representation of your work confuses someone.

The SOA Media Center provides equipment and advise for photographing artwork and preparing slides for portfolios and senior show reviews. If you need assistance, ask the Media Center Director.

Remember there are many books and classes on photography. You will learn a great deal by experimentation. However, experimentation can be costly and you may need that photo NOW for an impending show deadline. These pages are some basic low budget tips that may help you to think through the process, and hopefully represent yourself in a professional manner.
